New Release!

Named for the branding iron owned by the proprietor, the eight-and-a-halfacre Branding Iron Vineyard lies in western Oakville, close to the base of the Mayacamas Mountains. The 2008 has beautiful, ripe fruit flavors of plush berry and black cherry. Underlying hints of black tea and spice add interest, while the oak offers vanillin and toast. The most striking aspect of this wine is the thickness on the palate, which is a result of the ripe fruit and amazing, fine tannins. This depth of flavor is carried by the wine’s classic structure into a long, lasting finish. The tremendous length and layering of flavors is a quality that we associate with this and other west Oakville vineyards.

C.C. Ranch is planted in Rutherford, along the slope of a knoll west of the Silverado Trail. The 2008 C.C. Ranch has many layers of flavors that are quite distinct. Dark cherry fruit with hints of violet mix with black tea and earth to lend an exotic character to the wine. The natural “Rutherford Dust” and toasty French oak complement the fruit. The silky entry gets fleshier as the fine tannins from this vintage build on the middle palate and progress into a long, smooth finish.

Copper Streak Vineyard is located in a protected hollow at the base of the palisades in Stags Leap District. The 2008 Copper Streak has dark fruit flavors of berry and cassis paired with cocoa, black tea and sweet herbs. This exotic combination is carried on luxurious, velvety tannins that almost melt away on the palate. This jammy ripeness and fleshy texture blend seamlessly with the French oak to yield a wine that is most distinctive.

The diminutive, four-acre Dragonfly Vineyard is located in St. Helena at the base of Spring Mountain. The 2008 vintage as a whole captures incredibly ripe flavors with mouthwatering tannins, and the 2008 Dragonfly in particular is a beautiful expression of the vintage. Strawberry and boysenberry aromas entice the senses and reward the taster upon first sip. Warm, toasty French oak offers vanillin flavors that complement the ripe, jammy red fruit, mingling beautifully with the elegant tannins.

The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind the winery in the heart of Oakville and is named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880s. The 2008 Sullenger offers blackberry, black cherry and an earthy character which blends beautifully on the palate. It delivers on its promise of flavor and thickness, emphasizing the ripe, plushness of the vintage. The supple tannins coupled with the oak give a strong, supportive backbone to this wine, and the consistency of the flavor carries through into a long, memorable finish.

Kelham Vineyard is a 52-acre planting located at the base of the western hills of Oakville. The 2008 Kelham Cabernet offers a compelling combination of cherry and blackberry that melds with earth, spice, tea and tobacco leaf flavors. The core is firm yet supple due to the juicy tannins from this vintage. The final impression is that of an extremely long finish that highlights the concentration and weight this vineyard creates.

The 100-acre Martin Stelling Vineyard is located at the base of the western hills in Oakville, and is the primary vineyard for Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. Nickel & Nickel is fortunate to farm two acres of this vineyard. This 2008 Martin Stelling Cabernet has layers of blackberry, black cherry and cassis, which harmonize with undertones of chocolate and spice. This wine is fleshy with a dark, dense core that expands on the middle palate. The tannins are supple and rich and, combined with the oak, highlight the beautiful fruit medley in a lingering finish.
